Week 6 Assignment – Digital Imagining –Making Things Move

In week 6, we created animations in Photoshop, reviewed the entire Digital Imaging class and developed a final lesson plan, inspired by this course, that could be shared with fellow educators. This is my final project:

Assignment
Students will be given the assignment to tell a story using their favorite television character(s) and “put it on television”.  They will find creative and interesting images from the Internet to use to tell a story.  Next, they will find a background to place the television character on to further detail the story. Finally, they will put their story on an image of a television. They are required to have at least 4 layers: a background layer, a layer for the television character(s), a text layer and the television layer.  They will crop and erase any unnecessary part of the images.  They will transform the picture to make it fit properly.  They will make editing changes to enhance the images.

Sample Project
My favorite television characters are Lucy and Ethel from I Love Lucy.  I used an image of Lucy and Ethel in Paris when they thought they were wearing Jaque Marcel original designs.  In the original image, I placed them at Macy’s Department store in front of a counter selling Jaque Marcel handbags.  I imported the images and cropped them to size.  I used the eraser to remove excess parts of the images.  I added a text bubble. Then, I placed it on television and created a background fill.  I saved the image as JPEG file.

Subject Areas Taught: Computer Science
Grade Levels Taught: 9 - 12
Session Time: 120 minutes (Three 40 minute class periods)
Learning Objectives : At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
· use the Internet to find pictures of their favorite television characters, a background and a television
· use editing tools including: crop, selection, transform, eraser, magic wand
· work with layers to create composites and a text layer
· save files

Week 5 Assignment - Photoshop Ethics

This week’s class was a fun class. We looked into the ethics of Photoshop and saw an interesting set of ideas and challenges to work with in our classroom.   We played  Photoshop Tennis, also known as “Layer Tag” is a game in which players take turns adding to or manipulating an image, with results varying from hilarious to thought-provoking to beautiful.

Week 4 Assignment What is Photography?

This week’s challenge was all about the use of the camera, taking control of the settings and taking a long exposure image called “painting with light.”    The assignment was to create a long exposure digital image that defies time and amazes the audience.

This assignment was a bit challenging for me. I didn't fully understand what I needed to do to complete this assignment. I took pictures of an early morning sunrise. I saw varying images of light within the pictures. I used Photoshop to do several manipulate the image. I adjusted the input levels, curves and exposure to come up with my final image. Hopefully, I was able to accomplish the assignment.

Week 3 - Working with Layers to create a digital collage

This week we focused on developing our digital imaging knowledge and explored key tools such as layers, transparency, opacity and layer styles in Adobe Photoshop. This week’s challenge is to use non-destructive editing techniques and layers to create your own meme.

After watching the I Love Lucy marathon on Thanksgiving, I decided to feature Lucy and Ethel. I created several layers to make this collage including a layer for the image, the Macy's background, the counter and the text bubble.
